My Liebster Award Nomination

Sharing is caring!

I am humbled to say that I was nominated for the Liebster Award twice. My first nomination came from Lana at Finding Inspiration in the Chaos and second came by e-mail from Colleen at Goodbye Anxiety, Hello Joy. Both are amazing bloggers so it’s so flattering to be nominated by the two wonderful women.

What is the Liebster Award?

The Liebster Award is an award for bloggers, nominated by bloggers, that promotes the discovery of new blogs. It’s a great way for new bloggers to grow their audience and for people to discover new blogs. I’ve been blogging for about 7 months now and I’ve come to realize that it is very difficult. There are going to be times that you won’t have anything to write or things come up.

This is why I love these blogging chain posts because it allows you to be seen and heard via other blogger’s posts. It helps give you reach other bloggers in all types of niche, and might even generate a new subscriber or fan.

Why I started Blogging

I began my blogging journey back in June 2018. In April 2018 I got a call from Jaxson’s genetics team that they finally got an answer as to why Jaxson was having developmental delays and other difficulties. Dyrk1a Syndrome wasn’t on their radar and it is very rare. To date there are 220 families with Dyrk1a Syndrome.

I wanted to start blogging about Jaxson and his journey because I hope to help someone out there struggling to find answers for their child. I wanted to let them know that they aren’t alone in that journey. I also opened up my life as a military spouse and my love for fitness on my blog as well!

Questions from my Nominees

I decided to take questions from both posts.

If you had a superpower, what would it be and why?

If I had a superpower it would definitely have to be the ability to teleport. I’m a military spouse so I am away from family all the time, especially too far away from my mom’s side of the family in Okinawa. If I had the ability to teleport I would teleport there to my heart’s content. It isn’t cheap to fly so having this superpower would be a godsend.

I would also use teleportation for my travels to Jaxson’s specialty doctors in Durham. Yes it’s only 2.5 hours away but it would be awesome to just tap my feet together like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and end up in the Pediatrics at Duke University.

What is your favorite travel destination and why?

My favorite travel destination would have to be when we took our oldest son to Disney World early last year. My husband was going to go to Virginia and Texas for training due to being selected for Warrant Officer. We wanted to surprise JJ because he’s been asking for a trip to Disney and to spend quality time with just him.

I know it’s very difficult for JJ because I’m frequently with his brother and then his dad would be gone for 9 or 10 months. We packed up the car and left Jaxson with my husband’s aunt and uncle and made our way to Disney at 0500 that morning. When we got there it was totally worth it. He was so surprised and happy that he started to cry.

What is your favorite children’s book and why?

My favorite book growing up would have to be Dr. Suess! I have a few books I kept over the years that I got from my Aunt Wendy that now JJ reads most nights (well my husband reads it to him). I love that he loves books that I loved as a child and hope that when he grows up and has children of his own that he will pass down it to them.

What would you do with 24 hours of uninterrupted alone time?

Oh the million dollar question! I don’t remember the last time I had any time to myself. Even when JJ is at Kindergarten I am home with Jaxson at all times. I’m not complaining, I love that I am able to stay home and take care of him. But as a mom you still need time to yourself.

So, if I had 24 hours of uninterrupted alone time… I would relax in a bath, catch up reading Nora Roberts, try to catch up on sleep, get a massage, and manicure and pedicure.

Who do you admire most in life?

I admire my husband the most. He is one of the most hardest working man I have ever known in my life. He never complains and he never gives up. I am extremely proud of him. He busted his ass to be selected for Warrant Officer, he worked his ass off to complete his school, he was away from his family a lot over the course of our 10 years of marriage, he is up from 0430 and isn’t home until 1800 that evening… and despite all of that he still has the time to work on the house, spend time with the boys, and his family.

What are you most afraid of?

I am afraid of heights. I remember going to a retreat as a teenager with a Youth Group at church. One of the tasks we were asked was to climb down a repel tower at Yomitan Beach, I couldn’t do it. I was afraid, I started to cry, and many were shocked.

I was known as the tough girl at school so they couldn’t believe that I was afraid of that. I had to have someone go down with me.

If you had three wishes granted to you by a genie, what would your wishes be? (No wishes asking for more wishes)

First wish, have my school loans wiped away.

Second wish, have the ability to travel to Okinawa whenever we want.

Third wish, for families who are still searching for answers to finally get answers for their children. Having a child who is undiagnosed can be difficult, we were fortunate enough to find a diagnosis within a year–others are still waiting.
