Special Needs Mom Life
I am a mother to two boys and one has sleeping problems due to his genetic syndrome: Dyrk1a. We use to get a decent amount of sleep when he was between six to ten months, but now it’s sporadic. He is a very light sleeper and awakens fairly quickly when I try to move or put him down. We’ve even sold his crib because the only way he will sleep is on my chest (yes even at 22 months old).
We’ve started giving him 1mg melatonin (per Pediatrician recommendations) in his last bottle of warm almond milk. It somewhat helps him fall asleep but whether he sleeps through the night or not is up in the air. Sometimes I will get a couple good nights sleep but he usually will wake up at 2 – 3 am and stay awake for 2 – 3 hours.
So, when I was approached by AuCuTee to review a White Noise Machine I jumped at the chance.
Why do you need a white noise machine?
If you’re anything like my son Jaxson and I who doesn’t sleep well, has trouble sleeping, awakens easily, etc. sleep specialists recommend a white noise machine. I don’t remember the last time I had a full nights rest, I would be happy to just have 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
“I am a true believer [of white noise],” says Psychiatrist David NeubauerAssociate Direct of John Hopkins Hospital Sleep Disorders Center
I know, I know. The jokes on me. I’m a mom, I’ll never get a good nights sleep! BUT, I’ll do whatever I can to try and “sleep like my husband“. He falls asleep so fast, sometimes I just want to smack him–it’s not fair!
The purpose of a white noise machine is to help drown out every day noises like cars, trains, pets, etc. It helps you from being distracted by using a continuous humming to help you fall asleep. I don’t know about you but I get distracted easily, especially when my husband snores right into my ear.
My thoughts on the AuCuTee Spa Soothing machine:
I was pretty excited receiving the unit in the mail a couple days ago, I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. It was actually my birthday that day so it was like opening a birthday present for myself.
The AuCuTee white noise machine is about 4.24 inches wide and 5.94 inches tall, and weighing 2.07 lbs. Overall, great size for our master bedroom where both Jaxson and I sleep. The unit is also not too heavy and I can take it along with me when we go to Jaxson’s future sleep study appointments.

The AuCuTee white noise machine is inexpensive. The unit I was sent, Spa Soothing and Relaxing sound machine, costs $19.99. Very inexpensive and it’ll pay off in the long run. You can purchase their devices on Amazon, and if you have Amazon Prime you can save on two-day shipping costs! Talk about a win, win!
The AuCuTee white noise machine has two settings: Setting 1 and Setting 2. The first evening I used the 2nd setting and we placed it on the floor. The little unit was able to be heard throughout our large master bedroom. There are also timers: 30 minutes, 1 hour, or no timer–that evening I didn’t set a timer.
I do wake up a lot throughout the night, and Jaxson a well. I was able to fall back to sleep quickly with the white noise machine going in the background. Jaxson woke up that evening around midnight and I thought it was going to be one of those nights where we would be up for a few hours but he fell back to sleep as well.
The second evening we used it I placed the unit on my nightstand and set it to the 1st setting with an hour timer. I was able to fall asleep right as well. The beauty of the device is that if you wake up and need it back on you can quickly set it without wakening everyone in the room.
The device is very user friendly! Like I mentioned it has two different speed settings and a timer. Anyone can use this unit and it’s so compact–it doesn’t take up a lot of room on my nightstand. I am also thinking of using this in our oldest’s room because he is always running out of his room scared. The AC unit is right next to his room so when it turns on it makes a loud noise–he would benefit by using the AuCuTee white noise machine.
