I’ve come to know Lana very well from Finding Inspiration in the Chaos in the group, For the Love of Blogging. I love reading her posts because she shares so much of her life with her readers. She writes about mom life, her faith, marriage, and anything and everything in between. She is truly a gifted writer and I am excited to be interviewing her on my blog today!
Please introduce yourself and your blog for my readers:
Hi! My name is Lana. I am 32 years old, and I have a degree in Elementary Education. This is my second blog, but things have really changed since I was 25! I am a wife and a mother to two little boys, ages 5 and 2. My tank is fueled by coffee, hugs, giggles, and lots of wet kisses. I spend my days dodging Nerf bullets, jumping over little cars, cleaning up spills, wiping runny noses, washing a million loads of laundry a day, and etc…to name just a few.
I love God. I love Jesus. I love my husband and my boys. I would do absolutely anything for them, but I’m struggling to find inspiration in all the chaos. I went from working in a classroom to running my own district for Texas AgriLife Extension, part of Texas A&M. I was in control of 20 plus counties and I was only 25. I felt like I was successful and relevant.
Writing has always been a huge part of my life and who I am, but I hadn’t written anything new since becoming a mom. I have no regrets about my little boys, but I do think that moms tend to put themselves on the back burner. I have slowly forgotten who I was before mommy, so this blog is my way of finding myself again and really learning to be grateful in every moment, even the sticky, messy ones. I still love too quickly, love too easily, and give too freely. I’m still far from perfect, and I seriously ask myself daily “how bad am I messing up my kids?” I invite you to come along with me. Let’s laugh. Let’s cry. Let’s be inspired.
I created this blog to try and inspire other mothers that might be feeling the same way I feel. <3
When did you begin your blogging journey?
I started my first blog in 2011, but it was mostly for me at that point. I started this blog in August of 2018, with much more determination.
Can you describe your blogging style?
Oh man! I guess, I am currently more personal narrative. I am working on doing more round ups, affiliate posts, and informative posts.
What type of networking do you think is better to grow your audience?
I have seen a lot of growth with Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. Pinterest is a recent thing. I just really started trying to up my Pinterest game. Instagram is a work in progress, some days it is great and others not so much. I have also participated in a few linky parties.
What was your greatest failure and how did you overcome it?
My greatest failure? Mmm… this is a hard question to answer. I tried to commit suicide at 15. I am not sure I would call that a failure, but it is definitely the hardest thing that I have had to overcome. However, I have used my story to advocate for mental health and have touched many readers with my personal story that I shared recently on my blog.
Another one would be, divorce. My first marriage failed and that was really difficult for me, but I used my first blog to help me get through it and keep my emotions in check. I have many stories on my blog about my divorce and how I coped after it was finalized.
What do you do in your spare time?
Yoga, read, write, love playing with my boys. I know, write? But I love what I do.
What is your least favorite post, and why?
Honestly, my about me page!! Haha! Weird? I know! I find it hard to write an about me page. It is strange because my blog is about me my family, but I have never like writing an about me page. It always feel really cookie-cutter like.
What is the biggest trend in your niche?
Meal planning, easy ways to work in exercise, time management, quick meals… really anything that can make moms lives easier! I think moms also want to be inspired and read stories that also remind them that they aren’t alone.
What are some things people don’t know about you?
I hated my name as a kid. It was a cool thing to have a short nickname when I was younger. For example, Nic for Nicole…You couldn’t do much with Lana. 🙂 Now I love my name because it is different and I do not hear it often. I’m a bit obsessive about cleanliness and personalization. I know some people that would adamantly agree with this statement. I tend to overthink, which probably gets me into trouble and doesn’t help with my anxiety. Sometimes I talk way too fast!
What does a typical day in your life look like?
Oh Boy! I wake up about 5 or 5:30. Get my boys up at 6:00 and get them fed and dressed. We only have one vehicle, at the moment, until we can get my husbands truck fixed, so we have to get my husband to work at 7:00. Then I take my oldest to pre-k at 7:45. Head home with my 2 year old, and I try to get him down for a nap so that I can get some blogging work done for a little bit. Then I do the mommy/wife duties. Making beds, getting something out for dinner, cleaning the kitchen, washing clothes, etc…
I pick my oldest up at 11:15. Feed the boys lunch when we get home. Then I have to do homework and reading log with my oldest. Finish up my other to-dos. Cook dinner, run dishwasher, take out trash, vacuum…anything else that needs to be done around the house. Errands that might need to be ran… like groceries, gas, bank runs, or oil changes. I feed the boys around 5:00, then it is bath time, brush their teeth around 5:45 and put them to bed by 6:15.
Luckily, I don’t usually have to pick my husband up. His boss lives about a block from us and he brings him home. He gets home anywhere between 6:30 and midnight. After I get the boys to bed, I finish up whatever needs to be done for the next day, shower, and work on my blog for a few hours. Depending on when my husband gets home that night, we try to eat together or watch a movie to spend a little time together.
I usually get to bed around midnight and then start the day over again at 5 or 5:30. Oh, I also set aside at least an hour or more of good one on one time with my boys each day.
