Netflix is really stepping up on their Netflix Series! Growing up I’ve always enjoyed watching scary movies or TV shows. You would find me watching A Nightmare on Elm Street at the young age of 9, it has and always will be my favorite horror film.
It is one of the things my husband and I both enjoy; we make Saturday evenings our Ghost Adventures date night in. It is one way to spend quality time together, we’ve been doing it the last 10 years.
I know it’s not Halloween yet but for me it is Halloween 24 / 7, I love watching creepy shows and mysteries. Our oldest loves everything that has to do with Halloween including watching The Nightmare Before Christmas or playing Minecraft as Jack Skellington. As Halloween approaches, we all find ourselves wanting to catch the latest thrillers on television or our favorite movies, so I’ve compiled my favorite creepy shows on Netflix!
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
I grew up a 90’s baby watching Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They’re still my jam, even now you can find me on the couch binge watching Buffy or Angel. It will never get old. Much like the 90’s Sabrina the Teenage Witch, the Netflix Original follows Sabrina who is half witch and half mortal. She is torn trying to keep her relationship going with her mortal boyfriend and friends all the while battling the unseen forces trying to get her to go to the darker path.
If you’re squeamish I definitely don’t recommend Slasher. There are currently three seasons of it on Netflix and they are ALL super bloody and gory. If blood and guts isn’t your thing, I would definitely suggest skipping. I love watching the show because it isn’t predictable at all with so many twists and turns.
You can never guess who’s the killer! All three seasons are different, the first season you find a couple returning to the wife’s hometown… and gasp! Murders start to unfold. The second season follows a group of people who use to be camp guides that are hiding a dark secret. Lastly, the third season follows a building of tenants being haunted by a serial killer.
At first, I didn’t think I would enjoy this show but I found myself watching the entire first season in a day. Yes, I know, lol. I’m crazy. Anyway, the beginning of the series you find out that the main character, Sasha, has a freak heart attack. Miraculously at the same time as her heart attack a young teen, Becky, dies and the family donates her heart to Sasha.
Seemingly innocent gesture. However, Sasha starts experiencing visions and soon starts acting like Becky.
The Haunting of Hill House
I really, really enjoyed watching the show. It was very creepy, I thought they did a great job. The show follows the Crain family who move into a large home in Massachusetts and start experiencing eerie things. The twins start experiencing a lot of scares from the Bent Neck Lady and the tall man with a Top Hat.
The show jerks you back and forth with the past and present (some don’t like that, but I do). Little by little, episode after episode, you find out what happen to the children and how they lost their mother in the creepy aging home.
Definitely not one of the scary ones but I love anything that has to do with the Supernatural. The Order takes place at a University where they have a secret group, The Order, where witches and warlocks gather. The show also has their share of werewolves who protect the student body from The Order. The main character is stuck between both worlds as a Werewolf and trying to find answers about his mother through The Order.
Definitely worth a look!
Lastly, Stranger Things. I will admit that at first, I didn’t want to watch the show. I didn’t think it would be something I like because it is more Sci-Fi than horror. However, I am glad I took the leap and watched the first episode. The show had me hooked after the first episode and I wanted to know where Will went and where the creatures were coming from. There are currently three seasons (Season 3 just came out today!) and they all center around Eleven, Will, and The Upside Down. It will be interesting to see where season three will take us!
