It is every Parent’s worst nightmare, waking up the next morning and realizing they didn’t move the Elf. We’ve been there!

We have gotten away with telling our oldest son:

“Oh, Sneaky didn’t move because you were naughty yesterday. He only moves to tell Santa the good deeds you’ve been doing!”

And all is well again.

Save that excuse for later, trust me you’ll need it.

We started this Christmas tradition almost 3 years ago, when JJ was 3. He looks forward to when Sneaky the Elf will appear. He usually makes his appearance the day after Thanksgiving!

We kickstart the tradition with watching An Elf Story movie that goes with it.

A Little About Elf on the Shelf

If you’re not familiar with the story, Chippey the Elf is sent to a family by Santa.

There is a little boy in the family who doesn’t believe in Christmas Spirit. Chippey is tasked to help him believe again!

However the little boy decides to break the cardinal rule and touch the elf–a big no, no! Chippey ends up losing his magic… don’t worry they both end up believing magic and the Christmas Spirit again.

Alright, Back to the Ultimate List of Ideas!

There are so many amazing ways to pose your Elf! Some are crazy, some are easy, some are outrageously crazy!

You get the gist.

Don’t be hard on yourself, your kids will love whatever pose / set-up your elf has!

My Final Thoughts

It can be a little exhausting and nerve racking when you forget to move the Elf… but it is so fun and rewarding looking at your child’s face. How it lights up when they see what their mischievous Elf has been up to!

With Christmas coming to an end, I’ve compiled a list of ways to say Goodbye to Your Elf here. Inside there are two FREE goodbye letters you can personalize with your elf’s “signature”.

  1. Great ideas. This is our first year using Elf On The Shelf. He is out and about already! The best 2 so far was when I took him to my granddaughter’s school and the teacher put him in her locker! She’s 6 and was uber excited! And the other day Caden, she named him, hitched a ride to school in her backpack! 🤣🤣🤣 She loves it.

  2. Such great ideas!! My kids are all teenagers and older but I still pull out the Elf on the Shelf each year and I am convinced my 13 year old is still somewhat unsure about whether it is us moving it or not LOL

  3. My son started putting a stuffed chicken around the house in funny places like on the ceiling fan blade and it has now become a thing between him and I. It is fun to figure our creative places to put it. All these links you shared will help when I run out of ideas.
