Eggnog has always been a staple for Christmas festivities growing up. I just love all of the delicious spices and rum. It is truly Christmas in a mug.

My son had me buy him some eggnog the other day and he didn’t like the particular brand I bought. So what do I do? Instead of throwing it out and wasting it, I decided to make it into a bread recipe.

I have baked all things gingerbread or banana bread so why not an eggnog bread?

I have seen many eggnog bread recipes but none like this. This eggnog bread is paired with a delicious pear diced finely and yummy tart cranberries and sugar.

What’s not to like?

To make it even more decadent, I added an eggnog sugar glaze on top! Just a big piece of Christmas on a plate if you ask me!

My Favorite Holiday Memory

Since we are baking a holiday dish I wanted to share a favorite memory of mine. I’m going to take you back to December 2012… when we shared to our loved ones that I was expecting.

It was most memorable because we had lost a little one in the early weeks of my pregnancy. We were heart-broken and devastated. Thankfully a month later we found out we were expecting JJ, my oldest little boy.

We shared with his family who all drove in for Christmas, and I called mine. It was one of the best Christmas presents we have received.

Now to the deliciousness, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

A yummy Eggnog bread recipe paired with Cranberries, Pear, and Eggnog Sugar Glaze!

Ingredients

Cranberry Pear Eggnog Bread

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp clove
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 cup eggnog (I used fat free)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup butter (melted and cooled)
  • 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 finely diced pear
  • 1/2 cup cranberries
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp rum extract

Eggnog Sugar Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 4 tbsp eggnog
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp rum extract

Instructions

Cranberry Pear Eggnog Bread

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a large mixing bowl combine melted butter (make sure butter is cool before adding eggs), granulated sugar, eggs, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and rum extract and mix well.
  3. Pour in eggnog and sour cream, mix well.
  4. In a medium bowl add your flour, baking soda, baking powder, and spices. Set aside.
  5. Dice your pear into fine pieces. Set aside.
  6. Pour your dry ingredients and hand mix with spatula.
  7. Once dry and wet ingredients are incorporated together, fold in pear and set aside.
  8. Grease the bottom of your loaf pan and about 1/4 to 1/2 up the sides. If you grease to the top you risk having that "lip" look on the corners of your bread.
  9. Pour your batter in and top with cranberries and 1 tbsp granulated sugar.
  10. Bake for about 65 - 70 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
  11. Cool bread completely before adding glaze.

Eggnog Sugar Glaze

  1. In a medium mixing bowl combine your powdered sugar, eggnog, vanilla extract, rum extract, and cinnamon.
  2. Whisk together until clumps are no longer visible.
  3. Put bread on top of rack and pour eggnog sugar glaze on top.
  4. Allow glaze to harden before serving.

Notes

For the eggnog glaze, if you do not like the extra spices you can omit the cinnamon.
