Being a mom, or parent, to a special needs child, can be both emotionally and physically taxing. There are times I am just distraught and feel as if I’m not doing enough.
If you’re reading this I know you understand how I feel. It is why you’re here – looking for power and positive affirmations.
Our little man was diagnosed with DYRK1A Syndrome in April 2018, and with it came a whirl of emotions. We knew that our little guy was developmentally delayed… he wasn’t walking yet and he was 15 months at the time.
He definitely keeps us on our toes! We received a formal diagnosis for Autism Spectrum Disorder in January 2020. As you can see it was pretty recent.
We all suspected he would be diagnosed with Autism but receiving the formal diagnosis was still very difficult. As difficult as it was to receive a second diagnosis for Jaxson, we knew that it would open more doors for him in the future.
As difficult life caring for a child with disabilities, we couldn’t imagine a life without him. He is such a happy, happy child. He’s truly an inspiration to us all.

Why Do You Need Affirmations as a Special Needs Parent?
Affirmations are extremely important for families who care for a special needs child, or person. There will be emotionally trying days for us. We constantly worrying whether if we are good enough, whether we are doing everything we can possibly can for our child.
We are constantly worrying.
That is why Affirmations can benefit us – tremendously.
What Are Affirmations?
Affirmations are phrases or sentences that are built to alter the subconscious – to change our minds… to inspire and motivate! Repeating these powerful affirmations can change our actions and pull us through our journey.
These positive affirmations can be all that it takes to help us keep going – give us the mental strength we need to push on.

There is no wrong way of using Affirmations, all you have to do is pick a strategy that will work well for you. All you need to do is:

- Repeat these positive affirmations to yourself during those designated times.
- Warm-up with deep breaths – count to three.
- You can repeat them aloud or in your head.
- Write them out in your journal.

My Final Thoughts
I can seriously understand the stress and pressure you feel as a parent to a child with a disability. I seriously can. Parenting children with disabilities is no easy feat, especially those who are medically complex and medically fragile.
